SKCS Yearbook 1977•8 South Kortright Central School Almedian

To the Class of 1977 -

A mixed blessing I can count on each year is the advent of Graduation - that quixotic time of year when one tries to balance the sense of loss you have when a significant number of people who have been a real part of your life moves on, and the sense of satisfaction you feel when that same group reaches the final degree of accomplishment that a school can provide. Like the others on the South Kortright Central staff, I will miss you when you leave us, but I will also take pride in the achievements you have amassed here over the years.

It must be like this for you also, a bittersweet feeling of prideful anticipation and nostalgic longing. Your school days, so much a part of your lives for the past thirteen years, are over! Ahead of you lies the promise of a different future, one for which you and I hope adequate preparation has been made.

In his book "The Prophet" Gibran describes young people as arrows, shot from the archer's bow, aimed in particular directions, but traveling a path over which the archer has no control. The direct influence that your school and family have on you is fast ending, but if your direction is true and your flight swift, the target of success and happiness could be yours. This is my hope for you, to find the target your school and family sought for you while traveling on the path you find the most satisfying and rewarding. God-speed!
