SKCS Yearbook 1924•11 South Kortright Central School Almedian

ANNOUNCEMENT, 1924-1925 9

Of the class of 1923, Dorothy Kniskern and Anne Cowan were awarded State Scholarships as a result of their high average standing on the College Entrance Diplomas. They were among the five highest in Delaware County.

Fifteen more seats had to be placed in the High School study room during the Thanksgiving Vacation. The High School registration, separate from the grades, was 66 during the past year. The total registration was over 170, showing the steady growth in attendance.

The scholarship record of the grades has been relatively high compared with the High School. About 90 percent of the entire eight grades were promoted. This speaks well for the efficiency of our grade teachers, who are not afraid to work overtime if necessary for the success of the scholars in their charge. The attendance of the whole school has been nearly 85 per cent, which shows that the attendance law is quite rigidly enforced.

During the last year the three who attained the highest average standing in each grade and the five highest in High School for each month were published as Class Leaders, while the Honor Roll, which was printed, consisted of all who attained an average of above 80 per cent. The scholars have been as eager as ever in watching for their monthly reports to see whether they were among the Class Leaders or on the Honor Roll. The percentage of scholars in the grades or High School who were successfull each month in having their names on one of these lists has been very high.

The Annual Prize Speaking Contest was held March 28, 1924. The Auditorium was well filled to greet the contestants who numbered 12, seven girls and five boys. The excellent showing of the scholars reflected the careful and diligent training of Mrs. J. B. Rich. The High School Orchestra, under the capable leadership of Mr. G. C. Wirtz, added much to the enjoyment of the contest.
