Student Councii

President .........................Gordon Loucks
Vice president ..................Jay Vrooman
Secretary ...............Annette Reynolds
Asst. Secretary Treasurer Phyllis Reynolds

The purposes of the Student Council are: To maintain and develop school
spirit, to foster sentiments of law and order, to promote ideas of
participation in democratic government, to promote general activities of the
school, to promote scholarship, to develop qualities of leadership, to serve
as an intra-class athletic council, to build up worthy school traditions.

A few of the things the Council has accomplished are starting an intramural
sports program, a dancing class for the high school, and sponsoring the First
Annual Athletic Banquet.

The officers for the Student Council were elected on December 21, 1946, and
the first meeting was held on February 4, 1947, at which one faculty advisor
was chosen by the council, Mr. Busacker. The other advisor, Miss Davis, was
chosen by our principal, Mr. Burke.

On February I, 1947, the council officers, with Mr. Busacker, Journeyed to
Sidney Central School to attend a meeting to foster better relations between
schools. Nothing much was gained by this trip except some very good and much
needed experience for the officers.

On April 29, 1947, the officers with Miss Davis went to Delhi to attend a
meeting for the purpose of forming an organization of all Student Councils in
Delaware County. This organization will start functioning next fall and will
be very beneficial to all concerned.

Varsity Cheerleaders

The success of any team depends in part upon the support and backing it
receives from the student body, and this year's team certainly had the school
behind it, due largely to the efforts and inspiration of the varsity
cheerleaders. In action at all games, they led the crowd in cheering and kept
up the pep and fighting spirit with their colorful and snappy routines.
Coached by Mr. Reed and Mr. Cross and managed by Eleanor Simmons, the squad
were a great credit to the school and the success of its teams.
