ACCOUNCEMENT

A new and thoroughly up-to-date Course of Study for the High School has been adopted. This eliminates many subjects heretofore selected by but a few students, oftentimes but poorly adapted to our conditions and usually taught in a perfunctory manner with the sole idea of obtaining a few "counts" easily. It compels a reduction in the number of subjects taught, giving the faculty more time to devote to classes, making larger classes and altogether encouraging better progress and more vital understanding. At the same time, it provides sufficient variety to enable students to prepare for either Normal or College Entrance.

The strongest effort will be made to vitalize the teaching of history and have its importance properly recognized.

A goodly sum was recently expended in building up the Library and Laboratory, and alsi in the Busy Work Aids for the Primary Department. These efforts will be continued this year.

The rooms are well supplied with wall maps to aid in teaching Geography and History. Additions will be made from time to time.

Drawing and Nature Study are required subjects in all grades.

Music is also a required subject in the grades and in the Academic Department. It is in charge of a trained music teacher.

Individual laboratory and note book work will be made a feature in all Science courses.

GENERAL REPORT OF SCHOOL YEAR 1923-1924

The many friends of Hobart High School will be interested, I am sure, in the record of facts of the past

year which marks the third year in the new High School Building. I hope this report will meet with their approval.

In the January Regents 72 out of 77 papers were accepted, of which ten were 90 or above. In the June Regents 178 out of 189 papers were accepted making 94.7 per cent efficiency. We have some brilliant achievements in the June Regents. According to the Albany marks there were 25 who attained a standing above 90. In Caesar we find these marks: 88, 86, and 82. In Elementary Algebra there were two who secured 98 and two who received 95. Nine out of nineteen secured marks above 90 in Intermediate Algebra, among these we find the following ratings: two, 99; two, 98; two, 97; and one 96. In Geometry there were two, 100; one 98 and one 95. Eight Academic Diplomas were completed during the past year while two coimpleted a College Entrance Diploma and three of the Seniors completed a 90-Count or Advanced Academic Diploma. Ten were graduated from Hobart High School this year. One student made 38 counts during the year.

The table below indicates the progress of the school showing the total number of papers accepted at Albany in January and June each year since 1914:
